Grzegorz Turnau
Composer, singer and pianist, songwriter, arranger. He was born on July 31, 1967 in Crakow. He learned to play the piano at Ignact Paderwski State Secondary Music School in Krakow. He is a graduate of the Cracow’s 5th August Witkowski High School. He studied English at the Jagiellonian University. In 1984, while still a high school student, he received the 1st Prize at the 20th Student Song Festival. Soon afterwards, he got to Piwnica pod Baranami, with which he was associated for 13 years. In 1991, he released his debut album "Naprawdę nnie dzieje się nic". Since then, he has released 16 solo albums and contributed in dozens of other phonographic projects. He performs regularly and intensively. Currently, when on stage, he is usually accompanied by a group of several musicians (including Jacek Królik - guitar, Leszek Szczerba - saxophone, Mariusz Pędziałek - oboe, Cezary Konrad - drums, Robert Kubiszyn / Łukasz Adamczyk - bass, Michał Jurkiewicz - viola, keyboards), and also chamber string ensembles. He has collaborated with numerous outstanding artists (including Anna Maria Jopek, Dorota Miśkiewicz, Aga Zaryan, Sebastian Karpiel-Bułecka, Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz, Andrzej Sikorowski, and Stanisław Soyka). He composes music for the motion picture and the theater (including a long collaborating with the director Jarosław Kilian). He is the author of major musical forms and (since 2016) the music director of the Lalka Theater in Warsaw. Although he was born and lives in Cracow, he has been associated with the city of Inowrocław since his early years. He received the city's and the West Pomeranian Province honorary citizenship in 2013, a place housing Winnica Turnau - founded by Grzegorz together with Zbigniew and Jacek Turnau, and Tomasz Kasicki. He has been awarded with numerous prizes such as 9 Fryderyk Prizes, 2 Wiktor Prizes, Grand Prix Prize at the Opole Festival. He received the Gloria Artis medal and the Golden Cross of Merit. In 2016, he was awarded the City of Crakov Award in the field of culture and art. Privately - husband of a flutist, Maryna Barfuss, and a father of Antonina Kondrat.
